Over 100 million people, featuring at bare minimum 15 million youth, presently use e-cigarettes, driving a new wave of nicotine habit, according to recent global health reports.

Children are, usually, nine times more likely than grown-ups to engage in vaping, based on existing international figures.

Vaping devices are fueling a "fresh wave" of nicotine addiction, stated a senior health official. "They are advertised as risk reduction but, actually, are hooking kids on nicotine at younger ages and risk undermining generations of improvement."

Adolescents Being 'Targeted'

"Millions of citizens are quitting, or avoiding tobacco consumption thanks to tobacco regulation initiatives by states across the planet," the representative commented.

"As an answer to this significant advancement, the tobacco industry is pushing back with recent nicotine devices, forcefully focusing on young people. Governments must respond faster and more vigorously in implementing proven tobacco-control regulations," the official further stated.

The e-cigarette numbers are an estimate since some countries - 109 in sum, and numerous in Africa and South-East Asia - fail to collect information.

Per the study, as of February this year, at bare minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were adults, mainly in wealthy countries.

And at minimum 15 million teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 currently use e-cigarettes, according to research from 123 nations.

While several countries have tried to introduce e-cigarette regulations to address child vaping in recent years, by the close of 2024, 62 countries yet had no regulation in effect, and 74 states had no age restriction at which e-cigarettes can be bought, says the public health body.

At the same time, tobacco consumption has been dropping - from an estimated 1.38 billion consumers in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Frequency of tobacco consumption among females dropped the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

Among men, the decrease was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But 20% of grown-ups globally yet employs tobacco.

Cigarette consumption is associated to many diseases, like cancer.

Specialists say vaping is significantly less damaging than tobacco products, and can help you stop smoking. It is not recommended for individuals who avoid tobacco.

E-cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not create resin or CO, a pair of the most dangerous elements in tobacco fumes. They have nicotine, which can be addictive.
